Welcome to our journey into the teachings of Neville Goddard. From a young age, Neville was deeply rooted in metaphysics. Born in Barbados in the early 20th century, he was the fourth of nine boys—a detail that perhaps foreshadowed his future as a unique and prominent figure in the world of spiritual teaching. It was during his time in New York City, where he moved in the late 1920s, that his interest in metaphysical concepts truly flourished. It was here that Neville studied under Abdullah, an Ethiopian rabbi who would become his mentor. This meeting marked a turning point in Neville’s life, giving him a deep understanding of the power of mind and thought.

“Man’s greatest illusion is his conviction that there are other causes than his own consciousness.” – Neville Goddard

Goddard’s Teaching

He began to delve into the concept of “everybody is you pushed out,” a philosophy suggesting that our external reality is merely a reflection of our internal state. This idea, though simple on the surface, has profound implications. It suggests that by changing our internal state, we can change our external reality. Neville also introduced the importance of a mental diet—the practice of consciously choosing and controlling our thoughts. He believed that our thoughts are not merely passive observations, but active creators of our reality. By carefully curating our thoughts, we can shape our reality to our liking. In Goddard’s own words, “the world is a mirror reflecting what we are.” His teaching emphasizes the power of the individual to manifest their reality through their thoughts and beliefs.

The Law of Attraction and Vibration

As Goddard’s ideas evolved, he delved into the Law of Attraction—the belief that like attracts like. Goddard offered a unique interpretation of this universal principle. For him, it was not merely about attracting material wealth or success, but about manifesting a life of joy and fulfillment through the power of imagination and positive thinking. Goddard often said: “Man is all imagination; God is man and exists in us and we in Him.” He believed that our thoughts and feelings, especially those in our imagination, are like seeds planted in the soil of the universe. Like a gardener cultivating these seeds with sustained focus and attention, they eventually germinate into the reality we experience.

Positive Thinking and the Role of Emotions

Goddard also emphasized the importance of positive thinking. He believed that our thoughts create our reality and that it is therefore crucial to maintain a positive outlook. “Change your conception of yourself,” he urged, “and you will automatically change the world in which you live.” In Goddard’s vision, the law of attraction is an inherent law of the universe that can be harnessed through the power of our thoughts. By understanding and applying this law, we can become the architects of our own reality, shaping our lives in accordance with our deepest desires and highest aspirations.

The Importance of Assumptions and Belief

In his later teachings, Goddard refined his ideas and focused on the concept of assumptions hardening into fact. This principle suggests that our assumptions—whether about ourselves, others, or the world in general—eventually solidify into our lived reality. We shape our world, not the other way around. Goddard believed that assumptions are not merely idle thoughts, but powerful forces that work upon the canvas of the world, painting the picture of our lives. In his later teachings, Goddard’s instruction serves as a roadmap for personal transformation. It offers a way to navigate the landscape of our mind, to plant seeds of desired outcomes, to cultivate faith, and to live in joyful expectation of our desires fulfilled.

Reflection on Goddard’s Teaching

Let us take a moment to reflect on the key elements we explore today. We begin with Goddard’s early ideas, in which he posits that our thoughts and feelings are the blueprint of our reality. Next, we dive into the Law of Attraction, a cornerstone of Goddard’s teaching. He asserts that we attract what we focus on and that through deliberate thought, we can summon the experiences we desire into our lives. We conclude with Goddard’s later concepts and teachings, in which he expands on his early ideas and introduces new ones, such as “everybody is you pushed out.”

“Everybody is You pushed out” – Neville Goddard

Neville Goddard’s teaching has had a significant impact on countless lives and continues to resonate today. It reminds us of the power we carry within—the power to shape our reality and manifest our desires. Simply go your way in confidence that the evidence of what you do will appear—and it will.
